"I can't help but feel jealous": A Walmart customer goes on a quest to uncover a 'hidden' clearance item that is 75% off. She then uses the scanner to check the price.

"My Walmart is NOT working."

A Walmart customer searching for undiscovered clearance bargains on seasonal merchandise reported feeling neglected.

Amira (@amira.kj_), a TikTok user and Walmart customer, shared a viral video on TikTok expressing her frustration after scanning a blanket.

The video begins with a text overlay that says, “It looks like my Walmart is malfunctioning.” The speaker continues, “Hey everyone, I’m starting to think my Walmart isn’t working properly since none of these items are marked down to 50 or 75% off.” She then points out the shelves filled with blankets.

She suggests that the products belong to Walmart's Christmas collection and notes that they might be discounted now that the holiday season has ended. "Or perhaps any sort of Christmas discount. I'm not sure how you all are scoring these deals, but I can't help feeling a bit envious," she remarks.

She noticed fellow TikTok users buying the same blanket for less. Focusing on a soft green faux shearling blanket, she used her Walmart app to scan its bar code, but the discount she hoped for wasn’t there. “I remember seeing this exact item in a video I watched, and it was a few dollars cheaper. But mine still shows the original price,” she explains.

In order to demonstrate that the price of the seasonal item remains unchanged, she films herself scanning it using the Walmart mobile app. The app displays the product details along with its current price on her phone screen.

The product description states: "Mainstays Faux Shearling Blanket in Dark Green, suitable for Full/Queen size measuring 90″x90″ for adults." The blanket is currently priced at $14.88, which remains unchanged as of now.

Opinions from Walmart customers

Audience members shared that they’ve encountered comparable situations in their own shops.

"Mine must be malfunctioning as well. I checked these out and assumed they would be discounted, but they aren't," commented one person. Another added, "My Walmart is charging full price as well."

A TikTok user shared that a Walmart staff member informed them that certain products are categorized as "winter" items rather than holiday items. They stated, "My store mentioned that this year they have separate sections for winter and holiday merchandise. Those blankets fall under the winter category and aren't eligible for discounts."

However, some individuals mentioned that these discounts only appear at the checkout or vary by location. One person stated, “My store only applied the discounts at the register, not through the app or in advertisements.” Another added, “It really depends on the store. Some are offering the discounts, while others are not.”

Moreover, a Red Flag Deals user said in a forum that some stores take longer than others to update their pricing.

The Daily Dot has contacted Walmart and Amira through email for additional comments.

The Under 30 CEO website confirms that Walmart regularly engages in the practice of “hidden clearance” items. This means that Walmart will not openly advertise the clearance prices for these items. Shoppers instead have to hunt for them or randomly come across them.

Walmart shoppers in the past have tried to show others how to find these deals. One shopper said that all those in search of such deals need is the app, where they can scan items. The sale price should pop up there.

Others have shown themselves scoring such deals. One shopper said they found a 50-inch TV on sale for $50. Another found a $259 tent on sale for mere cents.

However, commenters in both cases pointed out that these agreements could vary based on location.
